Little did we know that the chilly weather was a big windstorm that would be canceling our boat off the island later that day...
The highlight was definitely the zip line. This shot was obtained as I didn't quite make it across this run and had to be thrown a line and pulled in.
A little story about the buffalo on Catalina.
In case you felt good about the way bureaucracy works.
14 buffalo were brought to the island for a film.
Time comes for film makers to leave; they can't find the buffalo.
Mr. Wrigley very nicely says don't worry about it you can leave them here.
Buffalo do what buffalo do and the herd swells to over 600.
The grasses can't support this many heads so the locals begin using the meat. And serving it in the restaurants on the island.
Oh wait now we're making sense.
Enter the FDA.
No, you can't process the meat in our approved methods; no more eating the buffalo.
Catalina still has too many.
So now, for $1,000 a head, the excess are tagged labeled, packed up, ferried across to the mainland, then trucked to South Dakota where they can live out their lives on a reservation.
Or be processed and sold from there.
Meanwhile the food to consume on the island is shipped from the mainland to consume and serve in the restaurants.
And yes, they do serve buffalo burgers.....
